Hours:  Part Time, 2.5 hours per week- Thursday afternoons, 3.00 – 5.30pm during school term times.

Date:  To commence as soon as possible.

Wages:  £11.44 per hour x 2.5 hour session, 42 weeks per year, initially.

Primary working relationships: Oriel staff, volunteers, young people.

Summary of main purpose of the job: To cook burgers, fries and hot food for youth attending The Shake Shop.

 
  • • Measuring out ingredients and following processes required by a recipe.

    • Prepping various ingredients such as meats and vegetables.

    • Cooking burgers, fries etc and ensuring appropriate temperature checks are in place to ensure food is safely cooked.

    • Using kitchen equipment such as deep fat friers, griddle etc safely.

    • Serving food and drinks to customers.

    • Cleaning up the kitchen space after cooking each meal and ensuring the prep area and kitchen are cleaned and sanitised at the end of each shift. This includes mopping the kitchen floor on a Thursday.

    • Emptying the kitchen bin and placing bagged contents in the wheelie-bins.

    • Maintaining a pantry record and informing person-in-charge of need.

    • Rotating stock items as per established procedures.

  • • Oriel Ministries will provide you with an apron and hair covering to wear when working in the kitchen.

    • If you have long hair, please ensure this is tied back

    • Please ensure you wear adequate footwear for a kitchen environment

    • If equipment is broken or ceases to work, please remove from use, complete the relevant forms and pass this to the person-in-charge

    • Attend and contribute to pre-session prayer time.

    • Enter fully into Oriel Ministries’ team life, including team building activities, training and other events.

    • Personal Qualities: A passion for youth and a pastoral heart to see young people reached and grow in their relationship with Christ.

    • Qualifications: You will be required to hold a current Food Hygiene and Safety Certificate (Level 2)

    • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Candidates must be friendly, cheerful, and have good communication skills; he or she needs to be self-motivated, organised, energetic and practical; an ability work under pressure, take responsibility and also work as part of a team; a willingness to be flexible in their approach to problem-solving.

    • Safeguarding: A working understanding of safeguarding children and young people. He or she must also be willing to positively challenge discriminatory behaviour.

    • Commitment to further training

    • Good time management skills

    • Driving licence

    • Experience of running a commercial kitchen

    • Qualifications in Food Allergies and Intolerances

  • • This job description is not exhaustive and amendments and additions may be required in line with future organisational changes

    • The successful candidate for this post will be asked to apply for a DBS check at Enhanced level; the content of that check could affect the ability of Oriel Ministries to offer employment

    • Whilst the role is currently for a total of 2.5 hours each week, there may be opportunities for further hours in the future.

    • The role is primarily that of a cook, however in a small charity there may be occasions when you will be asked to take orders, speak with young people etc. Training on the use of the till will be given.

    • If on any occasion, a club is unable to run, you will be required to use the time for a deep clean instead.

    • Oriel Ministries set salaried staff a personal fundraising target that contributes towards the salaries of all, training and support will be given to help you achieve this. Staff are also expected to organise, and take part in, at least one fundraising or other-sponsored event annually. Further details will be available at interview.
