Pulse Bus

In so many communities, due to a lack of funding, it can be hard to establish a permanent youth centre to cater for the needs of our young people meaning that they are often congregating out of boredom in local town squares and public areas. The Pulse Bus is a project used on mission across Devon and Cornwall to address the needs of our young people, giving them a sense of hope, purpose and self-worth. The Pulse Bus is a fantastic resource for reaching young people where they are at, providing a safe hangout space for them to have fun. Through the Pulse Bus, our team are able to build connections with the young people to share the Gospel and to speak into their lives.

So often we meet young people who see the church as irrelevant – most don’t even have a concept of what it means to be a Christian or they will have a distorted view. Our vision for the Pulse Bus is to bridge that gap between young people and the church by partnering with local groups, authorities, churches and Christian organisations, aiming to reach our local young people in a new and fresh way.

Our Aims

  • To work with the Police to identify isolated, vulnerable families. This will enable us to engage with young people in key areas, build relationships and give a positive focus to the programmes we offer.

  • To reach young people at a younger age. This will enable us to be proactive and impact greater numbers i.e. KS2 before transferring to secondary.

  • To share the Gospel and disciple young people. We aim to serve rural areas where closed churches or very small congregations means there is no youth work.

  • To provide a safe and confidential place on the bus for one to one mentoring.

  • To sign post to mental health and other agencies dependent on need.

  • To help support local churches and youth organisation for further follow up

The Impact

  • Share the Gospel to unreached young people

  • Bring hope and faith

  • Lower anti-social behaviour crime statistics

  • Reduce mental health issues amongst young people

  • Increase awareness of County Lines issues as we work alongside the police

  • Tackle the issue of isolation due to location for some young people

  • Empower local churches to engage with youth work

  • Break down barriers between Police and young people

  • Make young people aware of services available to them
